“THE CITY OF
GOLDEN FRIENDSHIP”

A celebration of the feast for St. Augustine. This event is celebrated annually in the month of August. The festival is known as “Kagay-an Festival”.
The officials of Cagayan de Oro City planned all the events of the feast. It is actually a week of celebration for the month of August. The said feast is traditionally celebrated on August 28.
For the following slides I will enumerate some of the different events happened during the festival.

MOTOCROSS
A very thrilling and once in a while event. This was the first ever event implemented by the City Mayor held at Barangay Tablon. The event was attended by different contingents from different places of Mindanao.

HORSE BACK RIDING
Another fun and full of excitement program.
Many people were enjoying watching the show. It was attended by different contingents from other places.

OTHER PROGRAMS
There are actually a lot of activities being showcased during the festival. Other programs that was given to all kagay-anons are the following, that surely brought joy and fun to the people.
Visitations of different Artists.
Kumbira, a competition presenting the different cuisines from different schools of Mindanao.

Miss Kagay-an
The Out breaking showcase of the beauties of Cagayan de Oro City.
Ms. Kagay-an was held on August 26, 2010 at the Atrium of the Limketkai Center. The pageant showcased the candidates’ talents, poise, beauty, and wit. The winners actually became the City’s tourism ambassadors.

AUGUST 28, 2010
The feast day. During that day, a lot of programs were implemented. The following are some of it:
Caravan
Kagay-an Folkloric competition
Dance competitions
Float parade

HALAD SA LAMBAGOHAN
It is a significant event as it highlights the role of Cagayan de Oro River in the community.
This was held on August 28, 2010 which was highlighted with two corollary events: the floating of lighted lanterns and a competition of stationary lanterns/flotillas.
It aims to manifest our gratitude to the Almighty and our patron saint, St. Augustine for the life-giving river from which the dynamism of the City has evolved.
It also intends to bring to the consciousness of the people of the City the importance of preserving the ecology of the river for future generations to enjoy.

PYROLYMPICS
A competition of Fireworks from different places.
The event was attended by 7 contestants from different places including the City of Golden Friendship.
The competition was held on August 29, 2010.
It was a wonderful experience that lights the City as a BLOOMING ONE.

As what I heard from other people’s comments, today’s fiesta is more fun because of the different activities implemented. A lot of people surely enjoyed all the events during the festival and as what I experienced and notice today’s fiesta is peaceful, no threats and all armed forces were alert in their duties and there were also a lot of participants from other places. That event simply showcased that our city is in Bloom.
