What is SlideSix?

SlideSix is a site for you to create presentations. We've all had to make a presentation at one point or another, and sometimes we wished we could share that presentation with a larger audience. SlideSix is a public community where you can do just that - share your message with the world. Simply put:

Register (and verify) a new account
Create a presentation (by uploading a file which will be converted)
Attach audio and/or video (via multimedia recording within the site) to your slides (slidecasting)
Publish your presentation!

That's it. Four simple steps to getting your message online in an impressive and effective manner.

What happens next?

Once you've done those four steps your presentation is immediately available to the online world as an impressive Flash based slideshow. It is also available in PDF format (with or without your notes - it's up to you). You don't have to attach audio or video to your slides but statistics* show that your presentation is 150% more effective when it is narrated by the original presenter and 1000% more effective when a video demonstration is given.

What else can I do?

You can create (or join) a group. Groups are simply a community of like minded individual users who want to attach a simple affiliation to a presentation. Groups are perfect for everyone, but are a particulary effective way for conferences or clubs to create an online presence quickly and easily. Think of it like this - you had a successful conference, but not every attendee could attend every session. So your presenters all create a SlideSix account, join your group and upload their presentation. They take a little time to narrate each slide with their message and publish their presentation. Now your attendees can virtually attend every session they might have missed!

Is RSS available?

RSS feeds are available in many places throughout the site. Groups and users have an RSS feed for the 25 most recent presentations. You'll see the familiar 'RSS' icon wherever a feed is available.

What's different about SlideSix?

We're not doing anything terribly new here. But we like to think we're keeping things simple. People like things simple, but simple usually means boring and unimpressive. That's not the case here. Your presentation will be impressive and effective, but getting it online and adding audio shouldn't be difficult.

Can I embed my presentation in my web site or blog?

Yep - in fact anyone can (what a good way to get your message out there)! Embed code is displayed along with your presentation abstract. Just copy and paste that code into your blog entry or web site.

Why the name SlideSix?

Well, in technology there is something called the OSI Model. The 'six' in SlideSix is a geeky reference to the sixth layer in the OSI model - or 'The Presentation Layer'. I don't know much about the OSI model, but the name and reference seemed catchy enough so I chose the name. Besides, all the good names are taken...

*No such research really exists. Well, it probably does, but we've got nothing to prove it. We just thought it sounded impressive.
